friends in the right places

Late last week i was lucky enough to be invited to an exhibition preview showcasing my friend Nina"s work, which i must say was a lovely collage and cleverly executed.

I was asked to also partake using a poem as a stimulus for my work, i am currently exploring the outcomes and here are a few images that are to be worked on.

although im home for the easter break,

the work doesn't stop!

YSP new exhibition.

Headed down the road to Bretton a few days ago to see the new Exhibition The Yorkshire Sculpture Park have,

YSP presents an extraordinary body of new and recent work by renowned Spanish artist Jaume Plensa. Encouraging tactile and sensory exploration, this vibrant exhibition includes a 50-metre curtain of poetry made of suspended steel letters, large illuminated sculptures in the landscape, and engraved gongs that visitors can strike to fill the gallery with sound.

after satisfying my craving for sushi once again it was time to a bit of rummaging, in newcastle the vast majority of the charity shops are on one street..perfect for some dedicated rummaging time, i bought a few items, but my best buy of the day was this kodak camera which came with 3 rolls of film as well, i intend on taking this home this easter to get some good snaps of the wakefield waterfront to help me with my FMP.

visits!

Today I had a surprise visit form my parents which of course was the recipe for a great day out, being so involved in the current concept presentation submission means I've had very little time to realise how much I miss them!
I thoroughly enjoyed my day and a sneaky visit to the Baltic to check out the new exhibitions was an ideal way to spend my afternoon.



The current exhibitions are something definitely worth visiting, Lindsay Seers work "it has to be this way 2" is exhibited from 12 February 2011 - 12 June 2011.

The atmosphere of these installations were something quiet suffocating, being enveloped by darkness left an air of unease round the gallery. large scale crisp forms stand solid within the space while a much larger form oozes the uncomfortable distorted voice of a monster.within the darkness continues and you are drawn toward the projection the only source of light as means of safety.



"It has to be this way2 explores the complexities and uncertainties of history and memory. The installation resumes the story of the disappearance of the artist’s stepsister, Christine Parkes. Presented on a circular screen within a structure derived from forts on the West African Gold Coast, Christine’s stepmother narrates her tale while the film retraces her travels through West Africa. The complex and unsettling story takes the viewer on a journey that navigates the occult, the subconscious and the fragmentation of personal memory"

Although I was not expecting such an emotive piece I am highly impressed by the ambience and atmosphere created, this has also given me more stimulus for my current superstition lead design for my degree.
