Thursday

visits!

Today I had a surprise visit form my parents which of course was the recipe for a great day out, being so involved in the current concept presentation submission means I've had very little time to realise how much I miss them!
I thoroughly enjoyed my day and a sneaky visit to the Baltic to check out the new exhibitions was an ideal way to spend my afternoon.

The current exhibitions are something definitely worth visiting, Lindsay Seers work "it has to be this way 2" is exhibited from 12 February 2011 - 12 June 2011.

The atmosphere of these installations were something quiet suffocating, being enveloped by darkness left an air of unease round the gallery. large scale crisp forms stand solid within the space while a much larger form oozes the uncomfortable distorted voice of a monster.within the darkness continues and you are drawn toward the projection the only source of light as means of safety.

"It has to be this way2 explores the complexities and uncertainties of history and memory. The installation resumes the story of the disappearance of the artist’s stepsister, Christine Parkes. Presented on a circular screen within a structure derived from forts on the West African Gold Coast, Christine’s stepmother narrates her tale while the film retraces her travels through West Africa. The complex and unsettling story takes the viewer on a journey that navigates the occult, the subconscious and the fragmentation of personal memory"

Although I was not expecting such an emotive piece I am highly impressed by the ambience and atmosphere created, this has also given me more stimulus for my current superstition lead design for my degree.

c.v time..its a work in progress but its getting there

Monday

im all shook up.

Being back in wakefield over last month my friend Nina let me in on a little secret from the neon workshop and I was surprised when i say this lovely sign in a quite industrial part of town, having visited on the spur of the moment sadly i could not get any of my own pictures that paid it justice, the blackberry just created a black background and a none de-script red blur in the foreground, my second visit was even less fruitful as although I came back fully prepared armed with my camera, the neon was not even switched on.

After a the month of searching for some information on the piece I was happy to stubble across these images today!!

‘A human heart felt voice burning above the industrial setting of warehouses.’

The project will begin on St Valentines Day 2011. A sequence of twelve quotes will be presented over twelve months in large red neon text. Visible from the railway, the work will be erected on the roof of the Neon Workshops studio in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.
12 Months of Neon Love is formed using lyrical statements borrowed from well-known songs that feature the many configurations of love. Expressions of intimacy, adoration and heartbreak are visually re-presented to an unsuspecting audience going about their everyday lives.
On the 14th of each month, these significant and unique neon works will be auctioned on Ebay to the highest bidder. The next sentiment will take its place above the roof tops of Wakefield; a human heart felt voice burning above the industrial setting of warehouses.

Friday

guest speaker

Last Night I attended a short talk by David Dalziel arranged by the interior educators conference based at Northumbria university which i currently attend, It was good to hear a successful member of industry speak about not only the companies projects but more importantly what they expect from upcoming graduates and their role within a successful company.
I thoroughly enjoyed this evening and it gave me the motivation to get started again on my FMP again.........................................
however I will admit this was short lived after the library printer decided to go wild and print every last piece of paper it could instead of the work I had sent through..............I did leave slightly deflated!
Never mind!
