Deck the Halls

Whist the Parents are away I made my start on setting up the christmas decorations and injecting some festive cheer in the Joyce household.

Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Yippee!

Big Dip

The day arrived............................................... after contemplating having my hair dipped dyed for a few weeks  I finally bit the bullet. A bag of nerves having never dyed my hair before I feared that I might turn out looking like Tony the tiger or even worse leave with half my hair missing. Once over that and a few words of support from the ladies I visited my friend Jens swanky new salon which she has just opened to take the plunge and..................I  absolutely love it.

Lost and Found

Its not to be mistaken for the local office in your bus depot the Lost and Found Birmingham may not be the place to go find that old umbrella but I am sure once on the doorstep you will unearth a number of surprises.

The Victorian Botanical hideaway has arrived in birmingham and around every corner there is more to discover than what originally meets the eye, I spent a lovely evening for the grand opening were myself and the Kai design team saw the effort of our hard work.

The night was a success with many a positive review and plenty of great cocktails!

Birmingham lights

Spending the weekend in Birmingham made a change form the usual and much to my surprise we were just in time for the German Market.
With a love for Gluhwein and shopping what more could a girl ask for. A little trip to the bull ring has allowed for a head start on the old Christmas shopping, consider it a success all round!

Holidays are coming!!!!!

Not a massive fan of commercialism especially at Christmas but the coca cola truck never fails to spell out Christmas so I had to visit while it was in town

Children in need

Time to unleash some domestic goddess vibes and get my bake on. I dream of being Nigella Lawson and children in needs cake sale seemed like a perfect opportunity to don my apron to bake some cupcakes all for a good cause. Here's my efforts for Pudsey complete with vanilla buttercream and mini smarties

Halloween

Top pumpkin carving!

Back with a "bang"!

(A metaphorical "bang" of course!)

Well its been a while and quite frankly I'm only just catching up with myself!
A few months have passed and a little and a lot has changed. I am back! Time to rectify the errors of my ways!

Birthday times

These handmade little beauties were made by my very talented and creative friend Nina. Knowing my love of the wrinkly chopped pooches I now have my two friends "Kevin" and "Simon" in cushion form! I adore these bad boys, so thank you very much!

Catch up

Back from a month or so in sunny Spain for September I really appreciated some quality family time and plenty of dedicated rest and relaxation before me twenty *cough* birthday. Fond memories I have to keep! :)

Saturday

Let the Games begin.

Last night marked the opening on the Olympic Games, and after what Id say started as a pessimistic attitude towards the whole event has slowly crept up and transformed into a  frenzy of excitement.

The June 2012 issue of British Vogue got into the Olympics spirit much quicker than I with the artistic story 'Paper Plates' featuring Lara Mullen photographed by Tim Gutt and styled by Charlotte Pilcher, and set design by Shona Heath.

Royal Seating

This family of stools by German designer Ellen Heilmann can be used as tables or seats.

The Royal Family comprises three American nutwood bases of different heights and three dark green cotton cushions. Each element is interchangeable and can be paired up or used as a single piece of furniture.

Long Division

Ill be honest Im not one to shout about the offerings of wakefield (that in itself is possibly the understatement of the century) but after opting for a evening in my home town for a change of scenery from the weekend Leeds circuit, I am rather happy to say that walking into the the Long Division Event was a brillant surprise.
Plenty of live music and an amazing atmosphere maybe I shouldn't be so scathing of the little place I call home.

Thumbs up all round.

Jubilee.

It has been 60 years since Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation onto the throne in Britain. The Diamond Jubilee celebration is well underway and we are here to share not only the popularity of the monarchy, but the array of colours that have defined the stylish consistency of the Queen over the past 6 decades.
Colour was the premise to the collaboration between Pantone and Leo Burnett London as they team up to bring you a limited edition colour guide of the Queen's coordinated ensembles. The guide is numbered featuring PANTONE Colour references citing the date and location that defines the queen's choice. So, next time you are selecting the swatches to a stationery system or defining the palette of your next poster, let her Royal Highness, the Queen assist you in the matter.

selecting feature colours from the Queen’s wardrobe, Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute®, reflects on some of the most notable colour selections:

>>> PANTONE 13-0755 Primrose Yellow ''The Queen’s royal wedding outfit from 2011 was Primrose Yellow. Yellow is a colour that speaks to the future with hope and optimism. William’s wedding was a time of national celebration and this choice of yellow complements the joyous mood of the occasion. It’s a colour that is high visibility (befitting a queen), while still not detracting from the bride.''

>>> PANTONE 13-4411 Crystal Blue ''Blue is a colour staple in the Queen’s wardrobe. It’s a colour that communicates constancy and it is also symbolic of her devotion to the British people. Blues traditionally have calming properties and she is often seen wearing them during difficult times. Blue is also seen as de-stressing so it’s no surprise she was sporting a serene blue to a Royal Garden Party in 2010.''

>>> PANTONE 16-2124 Pink Carnation ''Queen Elizabeth wore lighter tones of pink more frequently when she was younger, adding softness to her role as Queen and making her seem less austere. The PANTONE 16-2124 Pink Carnation she wore to the Chelsea Garden Party in 1967 is a good example. In recent years however, she has been seen in trendier bright pinks, defying her age and communicating that she is a monarch modern in thought and spirit.''

>>> PANTONE 13-5414 Ice Green ''During the Queen’s landmark state visit to Ireland, the first since the country gained independence in the 1920s, she was seen in a cool shade of green. Her colour choice echoed the sentiment of her visit as green is widely seen to symbolise new beginnings, fresh thoughts and rejuvenation.''

Where can i get my hands on one of these!!!!!!!

Gaslight grill.

One of the more recent projects I've been involved in designing,The Gaslight Grill  is a new bar and restaurant concept bought to you by The Lost Society group also responsible for The Lost Angel in Battersea. The Gaslight Grill is set to redefine the modern steakhouse by pushing the envelope of British culinary creativity fusing grilled fired meats with country classics.

Embodying 18th century lavishness and true British class, The Gaslight's Gin Palace bar  will serve up an inspired drinks list featuring home infused, world craft as well as London gins.  In addition, classic cocktails run alongside a selection of real ales - all celebrating the best of British.

Check it out if your in the area.

Clerk well favourites

clerkwell

Giles Miller Studio has created the entrance to Clerkenwell Design Week in the form of a timber archway made up of 20,000 angled wooden pixels. The archway sits inside the original concrete arches of the Farmiloe building, a 150 year old warehouse that has become the hub of the Clerkenwell Design Week.

The Clerkenwell Archway has been built from thousands of hexagonal pieces of laser-cut timber, set on wedges and angled to give differing shades and create light-based pixelation. The surface has been manipulated to show classic architectural detail and reference the original detail of the building, but also to show a contrasting geometric pattern in the centre of the installation. Each of the pixels has been hand-stuck to their individual 20 degree wedge, and then stuck in turn to the walnut veneered surface.

London-based design practice Giles Miller Studio develops a range of innovative surface materials for use in interior and retail design projects. The studio is based in Spitalfields and uses the medium of pixelated light reflection to generate imagery and graphics to suit individual projects and client requests.

The archway, which was originally intended to sit outside in the external corridor of the Farmiloe Building, but now acts as a second layer to the buildings internal archway and functions as the entrance to the event, which will see some 25,000 visitors over the next three days. This is the second year running that the studio has created an installation using angled surface pixelation for the event; last years bright yellow tiled bar-front was situated in the old garage on Clerkenwell Road.
